UniLodz Archaeologists in a Prestigious Volume on Prehistory

The latest volume, "Current Studies of Diversity and Pattern in World Prehistory", published this summer in South Korea, features articles by researchers associated with the Faculty of Philosophy and History, University of Lodz. Prof. Lucyna Domańska co-authored three articles presenting the achievements of the Institute of Archaeology, University of Lodz, in the field of Stone Age research, while Dr Marcel Bartczak co-authored an article analysing the activities of Korean archaeological museums, with a particular emphasis on their role in preserving and popularising Stone Age heritage.

The volume under review also includes works by other Polish archaeologists: Prof. Mirosław Masojć (University of Wrocław), dr. hab. Seweryn Rzepecki, Associate Professor at the University of Gdańsk, and dr hab. Marcin Wąs, Associate Professor at the University of Gdańsk – which shows that Polish archaeology plays an important role in the international discussion on prehistory.

The publication has been created to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the scholarly work of Professor Yung-jo Lee, President of the Institute of Korean Prehistory in Cheongju, and the 25th anniversary of the "Suyanggae and Her Neighbors" conference, one of the most important archaeological forums devoted to the Stone Age, organised by the Institute. The participation of the Institute of Archaeology, University of Lodz, in this series was presented in a congratulatory letter from Professor Lucyna Domańska, published in the volume. Prof. Lucyna Domańska serves as the Vice-Chair of the Programme Committee of this conference series.

This work is not an ordinary monograph – it is a kind of encyclopaedia of contemporary research on human prehistory, covering topics from the early Paleolithic, through the Mesolithic and Neolithic, to the contemporary challenges of protecting archaeological heritage. At the same time, it is a tribute to the idea of international cooperation that has united scientists from Europe, Asia and the Americas for a quarter of a century

– explains Dr Marcel Bartczak, one of the co-authors of the publication

We are proud that the University of Lodz and the Institute of Archaeology are so prominently represented in this prestigious, international volume. The presence of our scientists demonstrates that the studies conducted by researchers from Lodz contribute to the global discussion on human prehistory.

We would like to offer our sincere congratulations to all the authors, especially Prof. Lucyna Domańska and Dr Marcel Bartczak.
